Bowen Technique is a therapy developed by Australian, Tom Bowen. A Bowen therapist uses gentle rolling moves over skin, fascia, muscles, nerves & ligaments. Although the moves are light, they have a profound effect on the body, allowing it to relax and start the healing process.
What can you expect when you have a Bowen session?
During Bowen therapy, the therapist will ask detailed questions about your health. They will then do assessments before doing a series of moves on skin (or through light clothing). You will be either lying on a massage bed, sitting or standing.
After a number of moves, the therapist will move away from you for a few minutes to allow your body time to respond to the moves. The session lasts from half an hour to an hour. Most people find that a only a few sessions are needed. I have had people who have suffered with back ache for years and it has been completely relieved after the first session; this is not unusual.
It works especially well on acute injuries such as sprains, strains & pulled muscles. As well having relief from the problem, clients often report an increase in energy, better sleeping patterns and a general feeling of well being. Bowen can be used on anyone from new born babies (works amazingly well for colic), pregnant women and top athletes. Bowen therapy also has been proven to help with the following:
